March-ing On!
Hello all, well I haven't much time as we are scheduled to leave for Okinawa in a few hours, but I wanted to get a quick post up before we left. I have been putting it off way too long, and I know I will another exciting post when we return. So let's do a bit of catching up now.
First things, first.....
We have gotten our new assignment...Elmendorf, ALASKA. Yes, ladies and gents we just can't get enough snow and ice here so we are heading back to the tundra. Kameron, Mike and Merril are super excited. They are looking forward to spending time with Grandma and Grandpa, playing with all their cousins and getting to know Carli and Jenna better...oh yeah, and there's a little thing called camping and fishing that seems to get them fired up as well. Kameron takes after his Dad and Grandma ~ he LOVES the wintertime. Merril is like me and after about 20 minutes we are ready for some hot cocoa, a fire and a good book. As I said in my earlier post, I am very sad that we are leaving Japan. I know there are a lot of wonderful things about Alaska, but I know a lot of them already and I am a bit of a rolling stone. I don't like rolling over the same ground. But maybe this time we can approach Alaska like tourists and really appreciate it and all it has to offer. I am happy to be returning to family, as it seems more important to be able to support each other over the past year. We have a three year tour, and I had Mike promised that we would try and go to Italy or somewhere else after that. (Unless I get an outstanding job with the School District that is ~ then I can travel every summer while Mike fishes ~ Umm, might have to try to work that one out!)
I am still busy with school and work. I really enjoy subbing at all age levels, and have found that I am better with the middle grades (3-4th). I will have the summer off and complete my student teaching in the fall (hopefully 4th grade). We will then move to Alaska in late Nov. I have been trying to ride more, now that it's a bit warmer and have taken up the ancient Japanese art of Yabusame which is archery on horseback. Here's a fun link and even has a game where you can try your hand and aim.

It's a lot of fun, and quite challenging. I also enjoy learning more about the culture through this sport. The folks at my riding club are so wonderful, helpful and patient with me. It also really increased my horsemanship skills, which I really need.
The kids are doing great. We got them some shrunk down golf clubs the other day, and they are really excited to play. So far only one broken window, and luckily it was our own. The landlord got a bit of a kick about that. Golf is very popular here, and so are kids, so when you put the two together the "kawaeE" or cute factor goes out the roof.
Well, I still have some packing to do so I'd better finish this up. Mike has a school to attend down at Okinawa, the most southern (big) island of Japan. He will be there two months, but the kids and I are going to go down with him a bit early and explore the tropical island. (It will give me something to remember during our coming frigid Alaska winters). It will interesting as most locals there do not consider themselves Japanese, it's kind of like Guam or Puerto Rico. The world's second largest aquarium is there along with a butterfly park, underwater ruins and amazing temples. We are excited, and are also looking forward to just relaxing on the white sand beaches. It is suppose to snow Friday, here in Misawa and the fierce wind has been biting at us for weeks, so it'll be good to take off for a bit. I will make sure to come back with lots of pictures of naked beach babies to post.
Hope everyone is doing well out there.
Andy and Betsy ~ we think of you daily and are sending all the positive thoughts we can your way. Thanks for keeping us updated.
All our love ~

P.S. ~ I think I have figured out how to change the setting to where you don't have to create an account to log in. I hate having to do that ~ you have to sign up and log in for everything now! Hope it works. Thanks!

The update is great. Hope you guys are enjoying the warm sands and ocean breezes. Sounds like you're all doing fine. We're trying to break into spring here. Except today it turned cold and windy so what do you say? We're having a big gang over for dinner tomorrow night. We're finaly getting around to our thanksgiving dinner with the Harms. We'll miss the Haney family. I think everyone else will be here. Mom's got more food than you can imagine. It should be good.
Have a good mini vacation. Love to all.
Dad
